The easiest way to backup and restore a Fences settings is via the snapshot system. Simply copy the snapshots layout on another PC is by transferring the file created by the backup/snapshot saving system.

Once a backup of the Snapshot is saved, simply copy the file from one machine to the otherthe corresponding location on the new PC, then restore the snapshotit through the installed Fences configuration settings.

 Instructions

To restore a snapshot:

  1. Right click on the desktop and select "Configure Fences..."

  2. Click on "Layout and snapping" on the left hand side of the configuration window that appears.

  3. Select a snapshot you wish to revert to. A preview window will appear showing you what the desktop will look like.

  4. Click Restore Snapshot to revert the desktop to this preview.

Backups of your Fences Layout/Snapshot are stored in the following directories:

  • XP: C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Stardock\Fences\Backups

  • Vista/

    directory:

    • In Windows 7/8/10/11: C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Stardock\Fences\Backups

    • You will need to replace USERNAME with your user account name on your PCfor Windows

    • Alternatively, you can import the following registry key into the new machine's registry:

      • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Stardock\FencesHighlight important information in a panel like this one. To edit this panel's color or style, select one of the options in the menu.
