DesktopGPT Using Your Own API Key
DesktopGPT includes the option to use your own API key as provided by OpenAI. If you have a paid account and credits for API usage, using your own key is possible with the application.
To use your own API key, open DesktopGPT and hit F9 or click the selection box on the right side of the input bar.
With the menu open, click the Settings option from the drop down menu. In the configuration window, make sure Options is selected in the lefthand column and at the top of the list, you will see OpenAI API Key and a pencil icon.
Click the pencil icon, paste your key into the field and then click the save icon. With this option turned on, you will now be using your own API tokens and not those of your Stardock account.
If you turn this option off, you will return DesktopGPT back to its default configuration.
After you enter the API key for your account, it’s important to make sure that your OpenAI account has credits available for you to use. OpenAI has made changes recently that can mean that just becuase you have a paid account, this does not mean that you have API credits too - how your account is configured, the credits you have, and limits placed on your account is based on the configurations you have applied to your own account - Stardock does not have the ability to view or edit any of your API information.
However, to check your account to see if you have credits, you can view your dashboard here. An account that is properly configured will see a dashboard with a widget that has the following information.
Â
If you do not see any credits in the Available state, your account may not be eligible to use the API. This information is provided as a general guidance and your individual account, credits, and API configuration may be different than the information provided above.
