How should Groupy handle tabbed Explorer and Notepad windows on Windows 11?
Replace Explorer & Notepad tabs:
On supported versions of Windows, Groupy will replace native tabs with Groupy Ones
Do not replace tabs:
Show both the native tabs and have the Groupy tabs on the top of the window
How should Groupy work?
Manual grouping by dragging settings:
Dragging a window over the title bar of another window is one way to manually create a Group
Options:
Always Group windows when moved on top of each other
Choices for time delay of this option:
Instantly Group windows
Only Group if the window has been held above for a least 1/3rd of a second
Only Group if the window has been held above for a least 2/3rd of a second
Only Group if the window has been held above for a least 1 second
Only Group windows when the Shift key is held down
Only Group windows when the CTRL key is held down
Only Group windows when the right mouse button is also held down
On/Off: Use the whole window for Group target rather than just the tile bar
On:
Off:
On/Off: Only allow windows from the same application to be manually Grouped unless the Shift key is held down
Moving and creating new tab settings:
On/Off: Only allow tabs to be dragged in a Group when the Shift key or the right mouse button are held down
Middle Click options:
Middle clicking a tab does nothing
Middle clicking on a tab closes that tab
Middle clicking on a tab opens a new tab where possible
The add tab button shows on some windows but you can force it on all windows. Not all applications will support this.
On/Off: Show the add tab button an all windows
On/Off: Add new tab in Word/Excel should open a new blank document rather than the recent documents page
Groupy hotkey settings:
On/Off: Enable hotkey to switch between tabs in a group
The default hotkey for switching is Winkey + ~ (US Keyboards) or Winkey + ` (International KB). Holding CTRL as well goes backwards
Note that the OS uses many of the Winkey hotkeys so we recommend keys such as the key to the left of the 1 key and below escape which are easy to hit with the Winkey and also unused
Option to change the hotkey to another Winkey + combo
On/Off: Allow the use of CTRL + Tab and Shift + Tab as hotkeys for tab switching
On/Off: Allow the use of a hotkey to rename tabs
On/Off: Use CTRL + N to open a new tab (where possible)
Exclude applications from CTRL + N handling by shift clicking on the Groupy menu and selecting ”Exclude from CTRL + N”
Explorer enhancement settings:
On/Off: Use the middle button in Explorer windows to doubled click on items in the folder window and go back a level on blank space
Sub option if above setting is on:
On/Off: Newly opened folders via middle button should be added to the current tab Group
